The engineering story began in 1993 with the idea of using a woven projection surface to keep the loudspeakers positioned behind the image while allowing sound to pass through cleanly. Screen Excellence became a dedicated UK screen manufacturer in 2008, maintaining a clear focus on premium private cinema and professional screening environments.
Woven 4K projection surfaces for dedicated home cinema
In 2008, Screen Excellence introduced Enlightor 4K, its proprietary woven acoustically transparent projection surface developed specifically for high-resolution projection. The goal is to preserve image detail while supporting accurate dialogue localisation and loudspeaker placement behind the screen, helping consultants and system integrators keep the soundstage aligned with the picture plane.
Fixed-frame, masking and retractable screen solutions
The Screen Excellence portfolio has expanded from the Reference fixed-frame platform to specialised cinema solutions including Theatre Aspect Masking systems, curved screens and retractable models. TAM 2L was introduced in 2009 for constant-image-height and multi-format cinema systems, while products such as VistaCurve and MediaTime extend the range for curved and retractable applications. Current solutions cover fixed-frame, masking and retractable projection requirements for premium home cinema projects.
